New Album Review: ROSE

Released in July of 2022, ROSE marks the 4th solo album, created by Kaya. Kaya is a unique vocalist from Japan and has been active in the field of music since 1997. Roses have always been included in Kaya's imagery, so it's no surprise that ROSE is a continuation of this beautiful branding.

The album was brought to fruition through a Crowdfunding project that allowed fans to participate in the creation of the work. Events, merchandise, as well as the inclusion of each donors name or nickname was offered as perks to encourage donors to participate. As expected, Kaya had an overflow of support which surpassed the original goal.

The album includes a mix of new and old songs including remixes of previously produced songs such as FABULOUS and Monday Monday. The song 花陽炎 is a really unique song where the artist used reverb for the main vocals to create a sort of background chorus, giving the song a more dreamy feel and sets the tone for album as an introduction to the world of Kaya. My personal favorite pieces are Spotlight and Neverland. These songs are very upbeat and makes the listener want to dance whenever the songs are played.

The remixes of Fabulous, Monday Monday, and Come Closer have a more laid back feel, compared to the original releases, which are more energetic. They definitely are great versions for your more mellow playlist and offer those with different tastes, something new to enjoy.

The title song, ROSE, as well as the song Pray were composed as a collaboration with 天野月 (Tsuki Amano), a famous vocalist who gained recognition through her work in the Fatal Frame Horror Series. The two songs feature great instrumental construction, played by various amazing artists such as Tsunehito (D), YURA (Psycho le Cemu), and 情次2号 (ハイダンシークドロシー).

This album as a whole really showcases the various styles in which Kaya performs and demonstrates their abilities in the middle to upper vocal range. The warm tone of their voice paired with the strength that one hears when Kaya sings is a beautiful combination that I have always admired.

As an artist, Kaya works very hard to provide the best to fans and that much is evident in the quality of work Kaya puts forth in every project they pursue. I highly recommend anyone to check out all of their projects, as Kaya is an artist that evolves constantly into bringing more styles of music into their work. I am simply one very proud Addict and will continue to support Kaya in everything they achieve.
